Minister rejects hike in services fees for Kuwaitis and expatriates

Minister of State for Municipal Affairs, Engineer Walid Al-Jassem is said to have rejected any increase in services fees for citizens and expatriates, such as the cleaning fee added to the electricity and water bill, transaction fees, licenses, issuance of certificates, documents, etc., reports Al-Rai daily.

The daily quoting reliable sources said there have been some proposals in this regard, which the sources added, “require a flood of study.” The sources pointed there are some laws and regulations which are being reviewed which can be amended, if necessary.

The sources quoting the Minister said any approach that affects the pockets of the citizens will not be approved until after a thorough study, whether positive or negative. The sources stressed all proposals submitted to the executive will be subject to research, especially those submitted by members of the Municipal Council.

The sources added the higher management in the Municipality is currently looking at the observations made by the Audit Bureau, specifically those related to financial issues, which the sources say, have “decreased significantly and this indicates the procedures and proper management of the executive body.”

Meanwhile, a number of MPs plan to submit a bill during the upcoming Parliament session to urgently consider amending the Social Security Law and present it on the agenda, in a similar manner, to discuss all matters related to proposals for retirees, reports Al-Anba daily.

In this context, MP Ali Al-Deqbasi said most of the deputies agree on the necessity of alleviating the suffering of the citizens in general, especially the retired people, and providing the something that brings justice and equality for all with regard to their rights.

Al-Deqbasi added: “We are striving for the Public Institute for Social Security (PIFSS) to provide a decent life for retirees, especially with the noticeable increase in prices of all commodities and its negative impact on the lives of citizens, especially retirees.
