Municipal Council elects chairman

The Municipal Council elected on Thursday in its opening session Osama Al-Otaibi as its chairman after winning 12 votes to four votes for member Hamdi Al-Azmi.

Abdullah Al-Muharri was elected deputy chairman with 13 votes to three votes for his rival, Dr. Hassan Kamal.

The opening session of the council was also followed by the election of members of the main committees.

The Technical Committee consisted of Maha Al-Baghli, Abdul Aziz Al-Mujal, Abdullah Al-Roumi, Fahid Al-Muizri, Mohammed Al-Mutairi, Hamoud Al-Anzi and Hamad Al-Madalj. Other committees followed suits.

The council's elections were held on 12 May as ten candidates out of 63 were elected. A number of 248,059 male voters and 271,577 females cast their votes.

On May 13, the Cabinet approved the appointment of six more members in the council. The council has a four-year term before election are held again.

The council is tasked with executing the terms and laws of the municipality's politics. It also evaluates projects and sets plans for different sectors in the country.
