Director-General of the General Department for Info Systems at the Interior Ministry Major- General Ali Al-Ma’ili said the ministry is currently working on a project to facilitate the renewal of driving licenses, residence permits of household workers employed by Kuwaitis and residence permits of expatriates through the Interior Ministry’s e-site and smart application, reports Arab Times daily.
However, Al-Ma’ili said, e-passports will not be covered by the new system because the applicants will be required to sign the document in person and provide the electronic fingerprints of the family. He added the new system will allow the Kuwaitis and expatriates to renew their driving licenses and residence permits and also pay fines through the system without the need to visit the departments.
Nonetheless, the applicants will have to go in person to collect the completed transactions and put the residence permit stickers on their passports at the relevant residence affairs departments in the respective governorates. He pointed out people whose transactions are blocked for reasons such as cases registered against them and/or if they are wanted by the law, must visit the concerned department for necessary action. He pointed out the project is expected to see the light of day on an experimental basis in mid-2017 before it is gradually applied to other services.
He indicated it has been agreed with the Ministry of Finance to cooperate with the KNET Company to collect money from fines and fees through the automated e-system. It is also agreed with the Public Authority for Civil Information to provide users with secret numbers to have access to the Interior Ministry site to complete their transactions.
